From the birthplace of hip-hop to the bumping 90s rave scene, New York City has always had a certain mystic to it, especially when it comes to the evolution of music and art. Filled with a roaring nightlife, the hustler’s mentality, and a creative spirit, the city that never sleeps, has a culture like no other. The New York state of mind is gritty, soulful, and fierce, and that’s exactly what Mary Droppinz captured with her latest track NYC.
Released on January 19 through Zeds Dead’s Altered States, NYC channels the heart and soul of New York City as Mary Droppinz blends groovy house beats with old-school hip-hop for a sound that’s both nostalgic and refreshing. From the old-school breaks to acid stabs, and record scratching, the La producer’s latest track serves as an ode to New York City and will surely make any New Yorker proud.
“I lived in NYC back in 2010/2011, and I fell in love. Since then, I’ve always had a piece of my heart there and so I was inspired to make this track about the energy I felt when living there. It was the beginning of finding the true hustler inside of me, outside of sports and school,” Mary Droppinz stated. “So I turned my experience into a 90s-inspired rave banger with breaks, acid, stabs, and all the good stuff.
