When looking at Luc Bradford’s discography you may find yourself shocked that he’s just 20 years old. He already has two full-length eps, a number of singles, and a Grammy nomination. It’s safe to say the Utah producer is on pace to becoming the next EDM sensation. In 2018, while he was still in high school, he began releasing music through Odesza’s Foreign Family Collective label. Since then, he has developed a sound that is undeniably his own, and it works. In Just 3 years ford. has created two masterpieces in (The) Evening and The Color of Nothing.

The color of nothing stunned fans and critics alike.

ford. released his sophomore ep The Color of Nothing on October 16, 2020, and stunned fans and critics alike with not only his level of production but his vision and perspective on the world that he so effortlessly illustrated through his music. At 20 years old he has an extremely profound outlook on life that translates through his calming yet enticing sound.

The Color of Nothing Represents what you see with your eyes closed.

The album consists of 11 tracks and represents “the vast, indescribable blackness you see when you close your eyes.” He told Dancing Astronaut. “For me, The Color of Nothing represents what you see when you close your eyes and rub them. Even though your eyes are shut, what appears to you in this moment is this indescribable hue. It’s not black, white, or any other color that can be described. For me, the color of nothing is liberating. It is a blank canvas; a canvas where I can free myself of preconceived ideas and create openly.”

ford. compares his style of music to the flow of consciousness.

While ford. makes undoubtedly emotional music, he doesn’t focus on a specific emotion while producing. Instead, he describes his music as a flow of consciousness that can grow. It evolves and adapts to whatever emotion the listener is experiencing at the time. Filled with ambient soundscapes, beautiful harmonies and hip hop inspired drums, The Color of Nothing will leave you in a trancelike, blissful state. Tracks like The Color of Nothing and Fruit&Sun are soothing and inspiring as the calming nature of his sound has an uplifting undertone.
Each song on the album fits perfectly together, yet they each stand out in a way that’s truly their own. From the r&b inspired sound of Pay No Mind featuring Lani Rose to the energetic bouncy vibe of Living, Breathing, ford. creates an experience that can’t be boxed into a specific category. The Color of Nothing is an incredible cumulation of soft sounds and vibrant beats that as a whole create a musical masterpiece and journey for the listener.
