With Opiuo & The Opulent Orchestra, the Australian bass producer Opiuo not only confirms this but takes that notion to the next level. Teaming up with a live orchestra, he invaded Red Rocks in May 2023 before a sold-out crowd for a funkadelic bass experience like no other. Now, six months later, fans can relive the now Iconic Red Rocks performance in the form of a live album.
Released on Friday, November 17 through Slurp Music, Opiuo & The Opulent Orchestra is a 19-track sonic adventure consisting of 16 live songs and three brand new originals, including the album single Conduct-A-Disco. Blending everything from tripped-out basslines to orchestral beats and doses of psychedelia, Opiuo transports listeners into a face-melting realm of kaleidoscopic sound.

With Opiuo & The Opulent Orchestra, Opiuo transcends from a music producer into a full-fledged electronic maestro. Joining forces with the Grammy-nominated instrumentalist Tom Hagerman and members of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Australian bass-droppin’ DJ takes fans through a meszmerizing journey into sound. However, instead of a typical electronic show as a DJ, Opiuo turns his focus to something a little more off-kilter. While the orchestra went through the timeless tracks that defined his career, he was busy conducting the 22 mmusicians and controlling the lasers and graphics all while mixing the show.
Opiuo & The Opulent Orchestra is “Quite possibly the most audacious project I have ever undertaken. My Red Rocks show with The Opulent Orchestra has become a defining moment for myself.” Opiuo explained. “Conducting the 22 musicians in front of a sold-out audience, developing, designing & operating the video & lasers, plus many months of work writing the music, then mixing the entire show; I honestly feel extremely proud of this album and can confidently say it’s some of my best work yet!”

With Opiuo & The Opulent Orchestra, Opiuo’s mission was to create an enhanced experience for his devoted yet diverse fanbase. In order to make that happen, he had to find a way to bring new life to his extensive catalog and reimagine his sound in a new light. Of course, being the genius he is, Opiuo was able to do just that. From the funk-fueled soundscapes and orchestral tones of Bam Bam, with CloZee to his cover of DEATHPACT’s Falling, to reinterpretations of classics like Flapjack, Jelly, and Snorkle the live performance album is stunningly creative, profound, and nostalgic.
