Fall Into Transcendence With Ravenscoon’s Debut Album ‘PERIPHERY’

First came the Body, then the Heart, then the Mind, and now the Soul. After months of releases and 3 EPs, Ravenscoon’s debut album, PERIPHERY, is officially here. But what is the word periphery and what does it mean?

The word periphery means outside the boundary of something, but for the quickly rising bass music star, it represents something more than that. It represents the human connection to the divine. That, while we exist in our bodies, we also exist outside our bodies. In a sense, we are in the world but not of the world.

“Periphery is my reflection on what it means to be, what it means to be alive, the experience of being separated from your human body and sent all the way to the edge of perception & back again,” he explained in an exclusive interview with The Daily Frequency. Released today, December 1, through Wakaan, PERIPHERY creates this experience through hypnotic waves of bass and an all-encompassing sound that transcends both time and space.

PERIPHERY is an electric fusion of sound.

Of course, Ravenscoon is known for dropping face-melting bass, but the music itself, especially on PERIPHERY, stretches beyond the constructs of just one particular sound. Drawing inspiration from genres like death metal, hip-hop, punk rock, and more, Ravenscoon’s interpretation of bass music is vastly experimental, powerful, and ultimately timeless. From hip-hop heavy tracks like Go!, Acid, and Soul to vibrant bass-fueled ballads like Falling Up and Dissolve, the record is a captivating fusion of heavy bass and kaleidoscopic melodies.

PERIPHERY is a cinematic masterpiece.

Inspired by albums like NERO’s Welcome Reality and Pretty LightsA Color Map of the Sun, PERIPHERY is an album that not only stimulates the body and mind but paints a storied picture through sound. Unveiling the record through individual EP’s with the Body, Heart, Mind, and Soul, each section represents a chapter in the story of PERIPHERY

The record first opens up with the airy soundscapes and trance-inducing synths of Boundary as you’re immersed in the seemingly unexplored realm of sound. As the record progresses, Ravenscoon alternates through variations of hard-hitting bass and otherworldly beats as you find yourself Falling Up to transcendence. Throughout the journey-like experience, tracks like Frozen stimulate your senses while bangers like Vantablack blast you into complete and utter nothingness. As the album concludes, you’re brought back to earth through descending sonic frequencies before you’re ultimately left questioning the perception of your own reality.

While we’ve experienced most of the album through separate EPs, when put together, PERIPHERY is an entirely new experience. Blending everything from lucid sonic landscapes to heavy, electrifying drops, Ravenscoon’s debut album not only takes listeners on a riveting voyage through the constructs of reality and time but stands as an undeniable masterpiece and an absolute must-listen.
