After making their HypnoVizion debut with their 2023 EP, neutral ground, the sfam boys have returned to Rezz’s now iconic new imprint with their latest EP, not playin’. Released on Friday, April 19, not playin’ blends everything from grimy drops of bass, tripped-out soundscapes, and experimental beats for a mind-expanding adventure like no other. Driven by a sense of spontaneity and impulsivity, not playin’ not only serves as a reflection of the duo’s inherently rebellious nature but showcases their undeniable versatility in the studio.

Spanning across six electrifying tracks, not playin explores a multitude of styles as sfam adds yet another layer to their already innovative sound. From the opening track, not playin, to the closer run it back, the New Orleans duo treks between varying tempos and wonky drops of bass for a concise and complete sonic experience that’ll leave you feening for more.
“For this EP, we wanted to make tunes at different tempos, and we did exactly that,” sfam explained. “The tempos range from 87 to 100 to 110 to 140. We love putting our spin on different styles and we think we showcased that well with this release.”
sfam links up with Super Future for a stunning collab.
On top of delving into new dimensions of sound, the duo joined forces with fellow HypnoVizion alumn Super Future for a straight-up banger of a tune in gettin’ paid.
“We’ve been homies with Super Future for years now, so it was only a matter of time before we cranked a tune out together. When he landed in New Orleans, he came directly to the stu, and we got it crackin’ right away. The rest is history,” the duo stated.
Filled with dizzying soundscapes, trap heavy wubs, and bass-face-making beats, gettin’ paid is not only one of the many highlights of the record but will blast you well out of the stratosphere and into the unknown.
“I’d always hoped to work with these boys since playing their deep and wonky stuff in basement parties and seeing them continue to put out heat, Super Future added. “It was dope to see what a quick session coming thru NOLA turned into… basically us bouncing around and waving trap arms while making some deep bass and beats happen in Iike 3 hours!”

Overall not playin’ cements sfam as true visionaries of bass. Instead of following the traditional route of dubstep, they step outside the box and, in doing so, curate a genre-bending sound that’s potent, revolutionary, and an absolute must-listen.
