Growth is painful, change is painful, but nothing is as painful as remaining stuck in a place you don’t belong. With Maddy O’neal’s highly anticipated third album Vital Signs, she not only embarks on a soul-soothing journey through bass and vibrations but inspires listeners to take a leap of faith to become who you’re truly meant to be.

Released on Tuesday, October 8, Vital Signs is filled with funky soundscapes, wonky bass drops, and mesmerizing melodies that will open your mind and propel you into a newfound reality. Spanning across 10 genre-bending tracks the album is an introspective offering of sound that showcases the Denver producer’s artistic evolution and cements her as one of the most innovative minds in bass music.

Vital Signs explores concepts of personal evolution.

In the words of Maddy O’neal you either “evolve or remain.” With Vital Signs, she dives deep into the concepts of what it means to be alive and follow your dreams.

Opening up the album with the question “Did you get bored or just decide to quit?” Maddy immediately captivates your mind with a rush of soul-stirring bass on ALIVE. Throughout the album, she then encourages listeners to look for the signs life throws at you and embrace the experience whether it’s good or bad. From the hypnotic basslines of Make You Feel, to the tripped-out beats of Too Real, and the uplifting atmospheres of Fresh Air she not only immerses you into her kaleidoscopic sound but inspires you to live your life to the fullest.

“The central theme around VITAL SIGNS is about finding signs of life and learning to navigate personal evolution in a mercurial world, Maddy O’Neal explained. “Being alive means experiencing the full spectrum of emotions—the good and the bad—and evolving as you ride the waves. There’s a lot of anxious energy in the world right now, with rapid technological advances and changes in the way we connect. This record is about navigating evolution while staying true to your roots and finding your pulse amidst overstimulation. The concept of ‘evolve or remain’ played a big part in shaping the theme. Sometimes, you have to strip away the noise and just check for your vital signs—learning to breathe through moments of turmoil and recognizing that nothing is permanent. You can’t fight evolution; you just have to make it your own.”

Maddy O’Neal joins forces with a dynamic range of collaborators.

On top of taking listeners on an uplifting journey through space and time, Vital Signs is filled with a dynamic range of collabs that serve as a testament to Maddy O’Neal’s undeniable versatility. Whether it’s unleashing waves of hip-hop-inspired beats with ProbCause on Locked In and Three 6 Mafia & Jason Leech on Run It Back or dropping that funky groove with Cherub on Lost, Maddy O’Neal puts together a genre-bending masterpiece.

Vital Signs is Maddy O’Neal’s most cohesive work to date.

While exploring the ideas of personal evolution through sound Maddy O’Neal also showcases her evolution as an artist. From the concept of the album to the music itself she not only expands on her immersive and funk-infused style but takes her sound to new heights and delivers one of the most thought-provoking records of the year.
