After months of teasing their fourth full-length album, the Oakland reppin’ bass duo has officially dropped Heavy Hitterz.
Released on Thursday, July 10, Heavy Hitterz arrives amid their headline tour of the same name, a run that’s seen the duo test-drive the project in front of packed crowds since they hit the road in late March.
Paying homage to the 2010s golden era of dubstep, Smoakland steps into the ring swinging with eight unfiltered bass bangers that hit you like an uppercut you didn’t see coming.
From the rumbling, unruly drops of the opener Ready 2 Rumble to the explosive jabs of bass on Mad Ting, and the earth-shaking wubs on the closer Get It, the boy’s fourth album is grimy, relentless, and unapologetic.
“This project is exactly what the title says,” Smoakland noted. “8 tracks – heavy hitting and beat driven to the fullest. We wanted to get right to the point with these tracks and give ya’ll a bunch of bangers.”
Among the many standout moments is a gritty collaboration with Big Gigantic and vocalist Silk Young on 100 Dolla Bill, a genre-blurring anthem that bridges hip-hop swagger with classic dubstep-induced chaos.
On top of all the madness, Heavy Hitterz also sees the return of Attitude, whose sharp delivery intertwined with a fury of headknockin beats adds even more firepower to the bass-heavy experience.
Leaning into its boxing-inspired theme, Heavy Hitterz doesn’t dance around the ring but hits with precision and force. Unleashing a combination of high-impact beats, head-ringing drops, and a throwback dubstep spirit designed to blow speakers, Smoakland delivers their hardest project yet.
