First, there was a cryptic message, then a video game, and now Sidequest Vol. 1 is officially here.
Released today, June 17, Sidequest Vol. 1 is a full-fledged excursion into one of the many sonic realms GRiZ explored while on hiatus. Spanning over 51 minutes, the mixtape features 22 IDs, flips, and remixes as the acclaimed producer unleashes a more intimate side of his bass-heavy sound.
From a massive collab with ProbCause to heavy-hitting flips of Mac Miller’s Weekend and Kaskade and Deadmau5’s I Remember, GRiZ not only showcases his versatility but launches listeners into a face-melting adventure jam-packed with nostalgia, filthy wubs, and unfiltered drops of bass.
“During the break I was working on music and really had no idea where to start,” GRiZ explained. “So I just sorta jumped in making so many different kinds of things… and one of the few projects that started to look like a collection of something was this like… small club dubstep vibe. Bass music that wasn’t necessarily made to be super huge or grandiose, it felt more like some songs that would rock in an intimate format.”
